Abstract

This paper presents the development and evaluation of a Connected Motorcycle (CM) system based on CooperativeIntelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) standards (EU ITS-G5), addressing the distinct dynamic challenges of motorcycles. The system integrates Dedicated Short-Range Communication (DSRC) units, diverse Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), CAN bus connectivity, and a centralized cloud backend. A SimuMak mechanical motorcycle simulator and a Carla-Unreal Engine environment were developed to validate the system’s algorithms under diverse conditions, with 60 riders. Formal test track trials, conducted at Toyota Autodrome with 90 riders, assessed the system’s performance. Results demonstrated high communication reliability, accurate GPS positioning, and effective warning delivery. These outcomes confirm the system’s potential to advance connected motorcycle technologies and enhance rider safety.
