Abstract

This paper presents a driving guide provision system aimed at enhancing race driving skills using control technologies. The proposed system consists of an offline and online racing guide system. The offline guide classifies driving ability into four levels using a neural network trained on collected driving data. It can identify features to improve driving capabilities. These key features are visualized on a race circuit map through a specialized display, aiding drivers in future sessions. The online guide provides real-time driving instructions based on vehicle current states such as heading angle, speed, and position. It is implemented using model predictive control (MPC) that generates the optimal trajectory of race vehicles, including the reference throttle, brake pedal, and steering angles. The resulting guidance is shown on an in-vehicle display. The system has been validated through experiments on a test vehicle on a racing track.
