Abstract

Vehicular communication is integral to the interactions among vehicles, road users, infrastructure, and cloud-connected technologies, significantly influencing the foundational and advanced facets of future transportation systems by enhancing safety and efficiency. Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) represents a pivotal wireless communication paradigm that leverages cellular networks to facilitate data exchange between vehicles and infrastructure. The connectivity capabilities of C-V2X hold substantial promise for applications in traffic management and collision prevention. This paper introduces a geocast-based prototype system, termed, RampCast, which is established through a software-defined radio (SDR) methodology. The {textit{RampCast}} algorithms, designed to optimize geocasting, are developed to refine message prioritization and retransmission strategies. Both static and dynamic field experiments, conducted on a test track, demonstrated robust connection efficacy, thereby underlining its capability to disseminate crucial traffic information and provide traffic guidance.
