Abstract

In this paper, an optimization approach is introduced, aimed at managing truck arrivals throughout the day at a port terminal with the goal of reducing congestion in various terminal areas. A prediction model is utilized to forecast the flux of trucks arriving to pick up containers, with the objective of strategically optimizing their arrival times to eliminate peak hours that typically lead to congestion. This reduction in congestion not only improves the operational efficiency of the port terminal, allowing trucks to be serviced faster, but also reduces traffic caused by trucks, leading to shorter waiting times for truck drivers. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed optimization approach in improving terminal operations and mitigating congestion.
