Abstract

The outburst passenger following large-scale evening events often leads to line capacity insufficiency, thereby placing heightened demands on the capabilities of dispatchers. To solve this problem, this paper develops an optimization model using backup trains in the depot to reschedule the timetable and rolling stock according to the imbalanced passenger demand. Specifically, the sequence and arrival-departure time of backup trains and planned services are considered as decision variables. Moreover, constraints affecting train operation are transformed by adopting the big-M formulation in order to integrate the time scheduling problem and realize the objective of minimizing the total passenger waiting time. After the transformation, this model is reformulated as an Integer Programming (IP) model, which can be effectively solved using the CPLEX optimizer. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed model, a numerical experiment based on the data of Beijing Subway Line 15 is tested which shows the validity of backup trains in evacuating the passenger waiting time.
